Random Friday: Hairstyles!

http://bookworm716.blogspot.com/p/random-fridays_6.html

Hey'a, everyone! Random Fridays is a new blog feature started by Emma of Bookworm/Future Author. It's pretty simple: every Friday, there's a new random topic, and anyone who wants to participate can join Emma in blogging about it. I've tried to do it for the past two Fridays, but it didn't work out either time. Thankfully, I got started a good bit sooner this time. This week's theme is pretty/awesome hairstyles. Since there are a lot of cool 'dos out there, I'm going to stick with ones I've worn in my own hair.

1. The Katniss Braid
This is actually a lot simpler than it looks. I can do it on myself without too much trouble. That's saying something, since I'm not exactly the best hairstylist in the world, especially not on myself. Anyway, this style is both pretty and easy, and I like wearing hairdos from movies I like.

2. The Wrap-Around Prim Braid
Yes, another Hunger Games braid. Not my fault that the Hunger Games movies have so many awesome hairstyles. This braid is similar to the Katniss braid, but a bit more complicated, so I can't do it. My little sister (who is amazing with this sort of thing) can do it in my hair, though. I like it because it has the style and some of the feel of the Katniss braid, but is a little more dress.

3. Just about any Elvish hairstyle
I can't really provide pictures for this one because there's a pretty large variety. I'd like to try Tauriel's hairstyle, but haven't gotten around to it. The Elvish hairstyle I like best for my hair is one I made up myself, based on a combination of what I know (Legolas's hairstyle) and what I can see of Arwen's hairstyle. Like the Katniss braid, it's surprisingly simple. I start by sectioning off the very top part of my hair, making sure not to take too much, and ponytail the rest off to the side to keep it out of the way. Then, I braid that top section of hair at the back of my head. If I feel exceptionally patient, I'll do a fishtail braid; otherwise I'll just do a normal braid. Next, I let down the rest of my hair and arrange it back the way it's supposed to be, usually brushing it out a bit. Finally, I take two small sections of hair from under the rest of my hair, just behind my ears, and do two small braids. I can either pull these braids out over my shoulders or let them hang back with the rest of my hair. Either way, it's a nice Elvish style that I can do by myself. As a note, this is also the style that I wore for my cape pictures

4. The Crown Braid
I like fantasy-looking hairstyles, all right? And this one looks quite fairy-tale-ish. Like the Prim Braid, I have to have my sister do this one for me, but that's ok. I don't wear it that often.  It does look cool, though, and it keeps my hair up and out of the way.

5. The Half Crown Braid
I actually like this one better than the normal crown braid; I think it looks more princessy. This is another one that my sister and I made up, so there's no video. the picture isn't perfect, but it's kind of close. To do the Half Crown Braid, I start by sectioning off the top third or so of my hair. I ponytail the rest off to the side like I do when I'm working on an Elvish braid. After that, I call my sister and have her do a lace braid with the top section of my hair, working around my head like you do for the Crown Braid. For those of you who don't know, a lace braid is similar to a Dutch braid, but you only add hair on one side of the braid. Once the braid is finished and pinned in place, using basically the same method as you do for the Crown Braid, I release the rest of my hair and brush it back into its normal position.

6. Five-Strand Braid
Back to everyday braids! This is a nice twist on the basic braid for when I want something a little more interesting. It's a bit tricky (I can't do it, mostly because I haven't practiced as much as I should've), but it's casual and yet unique.

7. The Twist-Braided Heart
This is a cute style for Valentine's day, though you could theoretically wear it any time of the year. It's actually really easy as well; I did in my sister's hair last Valentine's day. Also, unlike most of the other braids I've mentioned, it works well for various lengths of hair. (My sister's hair was about shoulder length at the time; mine was closer to waist length.)

Most of these hairstyles, as you can probably tell, came from Cute Girls Hairstyles. If you're interested in finding new ways to do your hair, I really encourage you to check it out. There are hundreds of tutorials, both for the basics of doing your hair and for more unique styles.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

  2. My hair's a bit too short for all of these.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! But remember: it pays to be polite to dragons.
