That is a good point; you do have to be careful to avoid cultural appropriation. But I think that as long as you're not making a carbon copy of a particular country or culture, you're usually fine.
Thanks for commenting!Sarah Penningtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06377945004067760298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6336480024326420194.post-21093105210730454652017-10-17T18:07:42.352-04:002017-10-17T18:07:42.352-04:00Nice. My current plan to help out a partially built would is to make a list of plants and animals. Right now, I just have nondescript trees, and I think my characters are more knowledgeable than that.

Btw, my steampunk is Italian maritime city states + Da Vinci technology (further developed) + cool accessories and a mix of miltary, renaissance, and Indian inspired clothing. But I'm ALSO working on a massive fantasy series where they move from different countries a lot.😂 So a lot of world building is needed there. I definitely think up my plot first --> then make the world. And I agree with your lists of things that need to be thought of! I do think we have to be super careful with basing our stories on real cultures though, in case of cultural appropriation. But there's a lot of great inspiration to be drawn from history and everything!CG @ Paper Furyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14954615708675952085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6336480024326420194.post-87164841053514722232017-10-16T20:01:10.243-04:002017-10-16T20:01:10.243-04:00Well, it seems to work for you, so . . .Well, it seems to work for you, so . . .Sarah Penningtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06377945004067760298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6336480024326420194.post-83720464625408789992017-10-16T11:43:32.162-04:002017-10-16T11:43:32.162-04:00I don't even know how I worldbuild. I'm just at the stage where that's getting to be a bit of a problem! (can you tell I'm a pantser??)

Definitely agree that the world counts as a character, which has quirks and changes and needs to be 3D! My settings tend to be 2D and fairly cliche, so I'll take your advice to mind.
