Sisterhood of World Bloggers Award

Earlier this week, Emmarayn Redding of Writing in Rivendell tagged me with the Sisterhood of World Bloggers award. Danke, Emmarayn! This seems to be one of those awesome awards that's all questions to answer, so let's get started!

1.  If you were tossed into a fictional world, which genre would you want it to be?  (In other words, which would you have the best chance at surviving?)
Ooh. This is a fun question. My first choice would be fantasy, naturally- something like Narnia or Middle Earth or the world of Goldstone Wood. However, depending on the world and the location within the world, my likelihood of survival might not be too high- by which I mean, if I'm more than a day or two's walk from some kind of civilization or at least other people or if I run into some kind of monster/enemy who wants me dead, I'm probably going to die. However, if there's other people around (whether friend, neutral, or enemy-who-doesn't-want-me-dead), I like to think I could survive by sheer genre-savviness.

2.  If you could take three people with you to that world, who would you take?
My sister (because she'd be furious if I knowingly went to another world and left her behind), my dad, and . . . either my mom or one of my friends who love fantasy.

3.  If a stranger broke into your house, but didn't see you immediately, what would you do?  (Assuming you didn't have a phone within arm's reach.)
Duck down and stay very quiet and still and pray very hard. Then, once he'd moved off a little, I'd grab a phone, call 911, and then . . . not sure. Probably look for either better hiding spot or a weapon or both.

4.  What would be the ideal way to meet your future husband, in your opinion?
Stumbling into another world, ending up on an adventure, and having him as a comrade on said adventure. (Hey, you said ideal, not realistic . . .) On a slightly more realistic ideal . . . probably in a situation where I make a reference, he not only recognizes but responds appropriately, and we proceed to have a conversation in references to that fandom . . . or something else equally geeky.

5.  If there's one character from a book/movie you would never want to find sitting in your living room, who would it be?  (Leaving out the ones that are too big or abstract to sit in your living room- i.e. Sauron...)
Probably the Witch King. Or any Nazgul, really.

6.  Is there is one character from a book/movie you would want to find sitting in your living room, who would it be?
. . . I have to pick just one? There are about three hundred and five characters who I'd love to find in my living room/backyard/etc. Though not all at the same time . . . right now, though, I'm doing with Dame Imraldera from The Tales of Goldstone Wood.

7.  If you could live one day of your life in the style of a television show, what genre would you pick?  (Sitcom, comedy, romance, crime drama, etc)

Oooh. Um. That's a hard one, since I don't watch TV . . . is contemporary fantasy/sci-fi an option? 'Cause I could live with my life turning fantasy/sci-fi for a day. Otherwise . . . um. Mystery/detective, probably. (Is that a genre? Or is it all just crime drama?)

8.  What character role would you take in the "episode?"
In contemporary fantasy/sci-fi, I'd want to be one of the protagonists, with my sister as the other protagonist. In a mystery/detective show, though, I'd be the sidekick and assistant- the Abigail Rook to the series' R.F. Jackaby. (Or, in other words, the Watson to the show's Sherlock.)

9.  If someone were to compose a soundtrack for your life, who would you want it to be?
Either Harry Gregson-Williams or Howard Shore.

10.  Can you give us some examples of their work?
Definitely. Harry Gregson Williams:
Howard Shore:

And now for my questions for other people!
  1. I love this question, so I'm stealing it from Emmarayn: if you were tossed into a fictional world, which genre would you want it to be?  (In other words, which would you have the best chance at surviving?)
  2. After arriving in that world, what would you do first?
  3. You have an adventure in that other world and now have the choice of whether to stay there with the friends you've made or to return home to your family and former life. What do you decide?
  4. Changing the subject: what's your favorite Christmas song?
  5. Your favorite Christmas movie?
  6.  If you were a superhero, what would your superpower(s) and code name be?
  7. Also, who would your arch-nemesis be? (Name, powers, etc.)
  8. What villain would you most want to show up on your doorstep (if one had to show up there)? How would you react to said villain?
  9. What good guy (from one of your favorite books/series) would you least want to show up on your doorstep? Again, how would you react to him/her?
  10. How long did it take you to answer these questions?
One thing remains . . . to tag people! I shall tag three others, as three is a nice number.
 Ryebrynn of Ryebrynn's Random Ramblings
Katie Grace of A Writer's Faith
Deborah O'Carroll of The Road of a Writer

Thanks for reading!

Best Blogging Buddies Award

Hello, all! Ghost Ryter of "Anything, Everything" nominated me for the Best Blogging Buddies Award- which, by the way, sounds like a tongue-twister. Anyone who can say it three times fast gets virtual cookies. This award doesn't have a banner, but it does have a mascot: Dave the Blogging Buddy Owl, who is adorable.

I want to hug him. Now.
Anyway! These are the rules of the Best Blogging Buddies award:

  • You must post to show the award on your main blog.
  • You must tag the person who nominated you, in your post.
  • You must tag all of your best buddies, and those whom you want to become best buddies with, who, to your knowledge, have not been nominated, for this award.
  • You must ask your buddies at least fifteen questions on your post.
  • You must answer all of the questions your buddies ask you. On your post.
This sounds like fun. I love answering questions- though I'm pretty sure I've told y'all that already. So, let's get started!

1. What is you favorite aspect of blogging?
Um. I have to choose just one? I suppose I'd have to say sharing my thoughts with others and then reading their responses in the comments.

2. Your least favorite?
Struggling to come up with topics to post about when I don't have TTT, Random Fridays, or NaNoWriMo to help me.

3. What's one of the best books you've read this year?
Not a fair question, precious! I read a lot of awesome, amazing books this year. Buuuut if I have to pick one, I'd have to say Golden Daughter. It was incredible.

4. Describe yourself in five words.
Daydreaming bookworm and aspiring author.

5. If you were supreme ruler of the world, what would be the first thing you'd do?
Organize my dominion so that I didn't look like a dictator.

6. What Disney character do you relate to most? (Yes, I did just ask that.)
Belle, of Beauty and the Beast. We share a love of books and a desire for an adventure or something else outside our ordinary lives.

7. Do you have many siblings?
Nope. Just one.

8. Think of a book, any book at all. Now, what's one thing you would change about that book?
The first book I thought of was Golden Daughter . . . but I can't think of anything I would change about it. No, wait. I just thought of something. I'd insert myself into the book somehow so I could be present for . . .  something. Preferably something that wouldn't get me killed.

  9. Who is one of your biggest role models? (Besides the obvious answer.)
Hmm . . . probably my mom. She's amazing.

10. Autumn or spring?
Autumn. Spring's better for photography, but autumn has NaNoWriMo, two birthdays, Thanksgiving, and the start of the Christmas season.

11. What's a yet-unreleased book or movie you are really excited about?
The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies is the top movie I'm looking forward to, for obvious reasons. I'm also going to go see it with a bunch of friends from TPS (online school I take German at), which pretty much doubles my excitement. For books, I'm really excited for Poison Crown by Anne Elisabeth Stengl and for The War of Swords by D. Barkley Briggs.

12. Realistic fiction, or speculative? Why?
Speculative! I've always loved fantasy and fairy-tales. They appeal to and fuel my desire for adventure, and they provide an escape from the ordinary.

13. What is one of your favorite non-fiction books?
Er . . . I read very little non-fiction, but I guess I'll say Walking With Frodo. It's a devotional book by Sarah Arthur based on The Lord of the Rings, and it's probably one of my favorite devotionals I've ever done.

14. What's something happening this month that you are really excited about?
Christmas, of course! I have a lot to get done- cards and presents to make and buy, the second half of my Advent poem to write, and more- but Christmas is one of my favorite holidays.

15. Alright then; the last question. You have just had a mysterious ring of great power that can turn the wearer invisible entrusted into your care, and told that it must--must--be destroyed at all costs. What are you going to do?
Not put the ring on, for one thing. And start looking for Gandalf. Or elves. Or hobbits. Or a map to Mount Doom. Oh, and practice a lot more with my bow and arrow, because I'd definitely need it.

Now, my questions:
1. It seems to be tradition, so . . . what's your favorite part about blogging?
2. Is there a song stuck in your head right now? If so, what is it?
3. What's your favorite Bible verse?
4. If you could trade lives with any fictional character for a day, who would you trade with? And at what point in his/her life?
5. What's your favorite Christmas song?
6. What's your least favorite Christmas song?
7. What's the next book you're hoping/planning to read? (For fun, not for school.)
8. Which book/movie villain would you most want to show up on your front doorstep?
9. If said villain showed up, what would your reaction be?
10. If you could have any superpower, what would you pick?
11. What's your favorite place to read/write?
12. Are your bookshelves organized? If so, how?
13. What's one odd quirk of yours?
14. What's one recently written book that your grandchildren will be assigned to read in high school? (Or, to put it another way, what's one recently written book that you think will become a major classic?)
15. Do you like even or odd numbers better?
16. What's your favorite kind of chocolate?
17. What are you going to do after you finish this tag?

I shall tag:
Ryebrynn of Ryebrynn's Random Ramblings
Emma of Awkwordly Emma
Rayne Speryll of Writing in Rivendell
IDK323 of World of Panin

Thanks for reading, everyone! And thanks again to Ghost Ryter for tagging me! I hope you all enjoyed reading this!

Liebster Award (Once Again)

As you can probably tell, I've been nominated by the Liebster Award once again, this time by Rayne Speryll of Writing in Rivendell. Thanks, Rayne! I almost didn't do this one, since answering these so many times makes me feel kind of like I'm bragging. Or self-centered. Or something like that. (I'm not trying to come off that way, I promise.) Buuuuut . . . I love answering the award questions. And Rayne's questions are really fun. So, yep, I'm answering.

Recap of how the Liebster Award works:
  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2. List 11 facts about yourself
  3. Answer the 11 questions from the person who nominated you
  4. Write 11 questions for the next person
  5. Tag people.
The facts come first, so we'll start there.
  1. I'm assistant photographer for my church's VBS this week.
  2. The "assistant" part of that title is mostly there because I didn't actually sign up to be photographer and am tagging along with my dad, who is one of three official VBS photographers.
  3. I recently discovered that I really, really, really like alternate universe fanfictions.
  4. I'm listening to Owl City.
  5. I like sarcastic characters.
  6. I raised my Camp NaNoWriMo goal twice (once to 45K, then to 50K) because I kept beating it. I would've raised it again today, but I can't because winning started.
  7. I do not play any instruments, though I have been recently told that I should learn to play something. Whether or not I will take this advice remains to be seen.
  8. I'm currently reading The Hero of Ages. It's my celebration for finishing my Heartless fanfiction, which I've been working on all week.
  9. No matter how much I sometimes like to pretend otherwise, I cannot draw. Or paint. Or do much of anything artsy that does not involve a camera and/or Photoshop.
  10. Speaking of Photoshop, I'm behind on editing photos, because I have about two hundred pictures from the beginning of the month which I need to go through and pick ones to edit. Photo editing does not happen during NaNo events, if you can't guess.
  11. I cannot speak with an accent, no matter how much I'd like to.
Now for the part I'm looking forward to: the questions!
1.  Why do you blog?  How did you start blogging?
Why do I blog? Because it's fun, and I like sharing my life, thoughts, and creative stuff with other people. How did I start blogging? Well, I noticed that a lot of Underground members had blogs (this was before I joined the UG, by the way), and it looked like fun. So I asked my dad about it, mentioned it would be a good way to share my writing with other people, and a while later, he helped me set up Dreams and Dragons.

2.  What is your favorite type of singing voice?  Male?  Female?  Alto, Soprano, Tenor, Base?  (Mine is tenor)
I don't think I have a favorite.

3.  How character crushes have you had, and on whom?  (If you're too shy to answer this, I understand.  Instead, explain to us how you feel about elephants in pajamas.)
I'll take the crush question; I don't mind. How many crushes? A lot. Too many to count. (Keep in mind, I'm a hopeless romantic, at least with characters.) I have no idea who the earliest was on, but some of my more recent ones have been:
Several characters from The Lord of the Rings (Legolas, by the way, is not among them.)
Two characters from Tales of Goldstone Wood. One is Bard Eanrin. The other I will leave you to guess at. (Though I'm fairly certain you won't get his identity right.)
Howl from Howl's Moving Castle
Wolf and Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles

4.  Which type of animation do you prefer?  Traditional hand-drawn, CGI, or Clamation?
The type of animation used in Tangled, which is apparently a combination of traditional hand-drawn and CGI, is my favorite.

5.  If you and the entire student body of your school (or homeschool group if you're homeschooled) suddenly found themselves transported into a fantasy realm, who would become the leader?
My homeschool group consists of myself and my sister, with my mom as the teacher. So, I'm going to go with my youth group instead. I think that one of the guys, probably Connor (who seems like he'd be good at keeping his head in a crisis), would end up as the leader. Of course, there's also a chance that I'd end up the leader, by virtue of having the most knowledge of fantasy realms out of anyone in our group. And if I'm in a situation where I think I know the answers, I tend to get a bit bossy.

6.  What role would you take, and why?
As I said above, I might end up as the leader myself. If I didn't, however (which is fairly likely and also probably a fairly good idea), I'd be . . . hmm. Maybe a sort of adviser-guide, since (as I said), I know a lot about fantasy worlds. Or I could be the strategist/planner, since I'm pretty good at that sort of thing. (I think it comes from writing.)

7.  Which of these teenagers seems most likely to be a superhero to you?
Actually, almost all of them have superpowers, and those that don't make for it in other ways (like Hawkeye does). But the only one who's a certified superhero at the moment is the guy fourth from the right (who's the boyfriend of the girl on his left and the brother of the girl on his right).

8.  What superpower would they have?
Telekinesis. Or possibly gravity manipulation. Both have somewhat similar effects.

9.  What would their code name be?
Well, he wanted it to be Jedi or Starwalker (he's also a Star Wars fan), but the people in charge of certifying superheros nixed both those ideas (along with a few others that would also be copyright infringement). They finally allowed Knight Force (which still gives him a Star Wars reference, but is misunderstood by most people as "Night Force").

10.  Which one seems most likely to be a super villain, and the hero's arch-nemesis?
That would be the third person from the left, the girl. No one knows she's a super-villain yet, of course; they just think she's the girl who seems to have a extremely intense rivalry with Knight Force. But oh, are they wrong.

11.  What's the villain's power and code name?
Her power is illusions, and her code name is The Shadow.

See what I meant about fun questions? Hopefully I'll be able to make mine almost as fun, though I'm not sure how well I'll succeed.

1. Do you like walking in the rain?
2. Have you ever been to a country other than the one you are born in?
3. Would you rather go to Narnia during the reign of the White Witch or go with Frodo and Sam on the journey to Mordor?
4. You've been offered a full meal of whatever fantasy-esque foods you like! What do you choose?
5. Guess what! You just found out that you've won a two-week trip to wherever you want to go! Where are you headed?
6. You get to the place and have been there for a few days when you accidentally fall into a portal and end up in the headquarters of your favorite book or movie villain. Where are you, and who's the villain?
7. Most importantly, how do you escape, and what do you do once you've gotten out?
8. What's your favorite movie soundtrack?
9. Would you rather go to Rivendell or Erebor? (Erebor is the Lonely Mountain, for anyone unsure.)
10. What would you do first in whichever place you chose for #9?
11. If you had to rename yourself, what name would you choose?

And finally to tag people. AKA the hardest part of answering tags. I shall tag:
Sarah Faulkner
HyperLinkzer
IDK323
Emma
Jag Swiftstorm

I hope you enjoyed reading this! I have another tag, this one a story tag like the Best. Tag. Ever. coming soon, and I'm really excited to do it, so keep an eye out for that.
Thanks for reading!

Liebster Award

Hallo! Before I went on hiatus, I was nominated for the Liebster Award by deborahocarroll. Thank you, deborahocarroll! I really like doing these (well, I like answering the questions), so I very much enjoyed getting nominated again. I'm pretty sure that everyone here is familiar with the Liebster award, but I'll review the rules anyway:
  1. Thank the person who tagged you and link back to them
  2. List eleven facts about yourself
  3. Answer the questions posted by your tagger
  4. Post the same number of questions for the next set of people
  5. Tag as many people as you have questions. Or as many as you can come up with.
The Answers:
1. Do you name your electronics?
Not generally, but our family's GPSes do have names. One is Glenda and the other is Penelope.
2. What color is your hair?
Brown.
3. Do you prefer libraries or bookstores?
Libraries, definitely!
4. At this moment, if you could magically have any kind of food (or drink) what would you wish for?
A big slice of apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream.
5. If you had to pick between never drinking tea or coffee again, which would you choose?
I don't drink coffee, so, yeah. But I need my tea!
6. Who is your latest favorite character that you’ve “met” and why?
Eugenides from the Queen's Thief series! He's so devious and yet so innocent about it.
7. Do you own multiple unused journals/notebooks and if so how many?
Yes, though I'm not sure how many. Probably around a half-dozen.
8. In your writing, are you a plotter or a pantser?
I'm a plantser. I plan some, particularly when I'm working on a long project. However, it's never a very detailed plan.
9. What’s your favorite genre?
Fantasy all the way!
10. Favorite theme song from TV or movie?
Probably Sam's theme from LOTR.
11. Happy endings? Tragic? Bittersweet?
Happy endings, please.

The Facts:
1. I like Tangled better than Frozen.
2. I prefer the German version of "Let It Go" to the English version.
3. I occasionally get the two versions mixed up and end up switching back and forth throughout the song.
4. I love cheese and will eat it with a great many things.
5. I also love hummus and would happily eat it every day.
6. Despite the above two facts, I do not combine cheese and hummus. It just doesn't work.
7. I enjoy writing poetry about my inability to get stuff done.
8. Said poetry annoys one of my characters (Ariana, who I had an argument with a few months ago) to no end because it inevitably ends up mixed in with her research materials.
9. I'm rather bad at responding to sarcasm.
10. My favorite writing snacks are M'n'Ms, jelly beans, and Lifesavers.
11. I have no idea what to put for this last fact.

5. You're inviting three of your favorite fictional characters over for lunch. Who's coming?
6. Also, what are you serving for lunch?

8. Do you like dark characters?
9. Do you have a favorite number? If so, what is it?
10. What's your favorite kind of shoe?
11. Owls or hawks?

And now for the People I Tag. This is always the hardest part of these awards. But I shall do my best.
I tag:
Hannah
Emmarayn Redding
Ryebrynn
Sarah Faulkner
And I shall stop there because everyone else I can think of, I have tagged many times already. Sorry.

Hope you enjoyed reading my answers and facts and such!

A bit over a week ago, I was given the Sunflower Blog Award by Ryebrynn of Ryebrynn's Random Ramblings. Hannon le*, Rye! (As a note, what's the etiquette on how soon you're supposed to answer these kinds of things? A week? Two weeks? Let's hope it's two weeks. If it's less time . . . sorry.)

Shadow Hand! Though I guess that just came out today, didn't it? HUZZAH!

I've never had it and am not inclined to try anything with that much caffeine.
4. Who is your favorite author?
J.R.R. Tolkien.

The Lord of the Rings.

In general,  yes.

I like them well enough, unless they decide to knock me over.
9. What is your favorite state(In America)
Virginia. Or Texas.
10. Spicy food or sweet food?
Sweet!
11. What is your favorite movie?
The Lord of the Rings.
Next, I'm supposed to nominate 11 people, but before I do that, I've also been awarded the Liebster Award by Karolina of Karolina's Bookshelf Recollections. Danke,** Katrina! Interestingly, the Liebster Award and Sunflower Award posts are extremely similar, so I'm 'cheating' and combining the two. In my defense, it's hard to come up with both facts and people to nominate.
Karolina's Questions:
1. What prompted you to start blogging?
I really don't remember. I think it had something to do with the fact that at that time, I was a lurker on the Underground, and a lot of people on there had blogs.
2. If you could choose to marry any character out of any book you read whom would you choose and why?
Gah, hard choice. Almost anyone I choose splits up a pairing that I love. I guess I'd pick Aragorn, though. He's noble, kind, brave, humble, and all around awesome.
3. What is the weirdest thing you have ever done?
I don't know . . . I probably did a lot of weird stuff when I was a kid that I don't remember. Of what I do remember, probably trying to open a door (like, turn the knob and stuff) with my feet . . . while they were tied together.  It was story research. And I was bored. I did eventually succeed, if you were wondering.
4. What is your favourite book series and why?
The Lord of the Rings. I love the characters, the world, the deepness of the plot, pretty much everything about it.
5. What is the last book you cried over?
I don't know . . . I don't cry over books. I guess probably Allegiant was the last book I got upset over.
6. Which book would you like to give a different ending to than the author intended? What would it be?
Either Allegiant or The Circles of Seven. Either way, someone who died would live.
7. Which author (living or dead) would you like to meet given the chance?
J.R.R. Tolkien, definitely.
8. You are flying over the ocean with your whole library in tow. The plain crashes but you can save three books. Quick! Which ones will it be?
My two autographed Tales of Goldstone Wood books (Veiled Rose and Dragonwitch) and one of my autographed Bryan Davis books (probably Raising Dragons).
9. Two characters from different books are in a cage-fight. Who are they and who would win?
Characters: Wolf (The Lunar Chronicles) vs. Joram (Auralia's Colors). Wolf is an undefeated street fighter and ***SPOILER FOR SCARLET*** a Lunar Special Operative***END SPOILER***. Joram is a beastman, which basically means a part-person-mostly-beast-creature. I think that Wolf would win in the end. Joram has more brute strength, but Wolf is more cunning.
10. Say you never fell under the spell of reading. What would you being right now?
Not blogging, that's for sure.
11. You can be anyone you want. Living person or fictional character. Who would you be and why?
Hmm . . . I don't know. Maybe Dame Imraldera, since she's pretty awesome and she's keeper of the Haven Library and all. Or Lucy from The Chronicles of Narnia, since it would be cool to be the first human to go to Narnia since its beginning.

And now for my nominations/questions. Questions first!
1. Would you rather live in Rome during Nero's reign or Paris during the French Revolution?
2. You find a secret passage in your room that seems to lead to a beautiful fairyland of sorts. The keeper of that realm says you're free to return as often as you like, on the condition that you'll search for a way to free him from his captivity there. Do you accept? Why or why not?
3. Do you enjoy listening to books on cd/mp3?
4. If you could have any accent in the world, what would you choose?
5. Dragons or griffins?
6. Pie or cheesecake?
7. If you could have any animal, real or otherwise, for a pet, what would you pick?
8. Do you prefer watching movies in the theater or at home?
9. What's one food you'd like to try but never have?
10. What are you listening to right now?
11. The book or the movie?

And now for nominations. Since I've gotten and passed on the Liebster Award before, these are all for the Sunflower Blog Award.
Hannah
Emma
Sarah Faulkner
IDK323
And I can't think of who else who hasn't already been given it, so . . . yeah. If you're reading this and you want to do it, you can.
Thanks for reading!

Liebster Award

The lovely Hannah from The Writer's Window has nominated me for the Liebster Award! Thanks, Hannah! To accept this award, I have to:

-Link back to the blogger who tagged me.
-Answer the ten questions she gives me.
-Nominate ten others and ask them ten questions.
-Let those nominees know they were tagged.

And now that that's up, let's get started with the questions! Yay!

1. Which fictional character has inspired you the most to be a better person?
Hmm. That's really hard to say, as I'm not sure there's one particular character who's inspired me in that way. I guess maybe Aidan Thomas from The Door Within, since he reminds me both of who I am and who I'd like to be.
2. What landscape do you love the most (desert, rain forest, snow, grass-fields, mountains, etc.)?

Hmm . . . forests or mountains . . . is it cheating if I say forest-covered mountains?
3. Name your #1 Literary Crush.

Another hard one . . . I've had a lot of Literary Crushes, which often tend to fade and then resurface depending on how long it's been since I've read the book. The top one . . . Maybe Howl from Howl's Moving Castle? Or possibly Eanrin from Tales of Goldstone Wood?
4. If you were in a book, what name would you give yourself, what role would you play, and what would you look like?

My name would be some variation on Leilani Sunblade. I like to think I'd be the heroine of the book, but in good writing, every character thinks they're the main character. More likely, I'd be one of those characters who tends to accidentally get the others in trouble, but still ends up playing an important role, like Pippin from The Lord of the Rings. As for what I'd look like, I'd probably look the same as I do in reality, only I'd be a few inches taller, and I'd wear a cape all the time.
5. If you could have any superpower (flying, strength, far-sight, etc.) what would it be?

Control of either light or fire. I can't pick which.
