Types of Tears (A Poem)

Everything's fine, don't worry. This is just something I've had reason to think about this past week, and I decided to share the results with you.

The Types of Tears

i.
There are tears of sorrow,
tears that overflow the soul
with longing for what is lost
or what never was.
Bad enough, your own tears,
but worse, a friend's,
whose sadness you cannot wipe away.

ii.
There are tears of pain,
of agony your body cannot bear,
or worse,
of a deeper ache within your soul,
of a heart torn asunder,
of hopes shattered and unmendable,
of breaks that cannot be set right.

iii.
There are tears of anger,
of frustration, of helplessness,
when you could take on anything —
but not this.
When the mountain before you is too tall to climb,
when your foe is too big to fight,
when you do not understand
(even though you always understand),
the tears come to burn your heart and mind and face
and leave you numb
so you can push on anyway.

 iv.
There are tears unwept,
tears held back for another's sake
(because you cannot add more pain to theirs),
tears that should be there
but aren't
and you wonder why.
Are you broken?
Or just different?

v.
There are tears of joy,
of relief, of gladness,
tears unexplained save for
an overflow of the soul.
Your heart is full of gladness,
your spirit, full of hope,
your mouth, full of laughter,
and you are so filled,
it cannot help but spill over.

Today

Today
Or: "To the people who think bookworms have no life"
February 8, 2016

What did I do today? Oh, a hundred things!
I roamed the rustic woods, for start,
And trekked the mountain ‘til I found its heart.
I learned the charmed song the fairies sing
And was guest in marble halls of kings.
I walked with elves, questioned, and learned their art;
I road with knights as they their foes did part;
And I soared the skies on mighty dragon’s wings.
All these things and more I’ve done
Since the day has first begun.
And without once leaving my chair,
I’ve fought in wars and battles won.
For there’s no limit to dreams to take me anywhere,
I but open a book and then- poof! I’m there!

Do You Remember Me?

Do You Remember Me?
To the friends who I've lost and who've drifted away . . . I might only mention three people here, but it's for all of you. Not that you're going to see it.
  Do you remember me?
The girl who you played games with
Every Tuesday night?
Do you remember me?
The girl who looked up to you
And copied all you did?
Do you remember me?
The girl who would try anything
If you suggested it?
Do you remember me?

Do you remember me?
The girl who sat beside you
And called you her best friend?
Do you remember me?
The girl who competed with you
And always came out even?
Do you remember me?
The girl who wrote you letters
‘Til you didn’t write back again?
Do you remember me?

Do you remember me?
The girl who chatted with you
Across the internet?
Do you remember me?
The girl with whom you roleplayed
As long as there were stories to be told?
Do you remember me?
The girl who seemed to come from
A home so unlike your own?
Do you remember me?

Do you remember me?
You’ve probably forgotten
As your life moved on.
Do you remember me?
I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t;
I forget things too.
Do you remember me?
Whatever you may answer,
I’ll still say the same:
I remember you.

Random Fridays: Book Title Poetry

http://bookworm716.blogspot.com/
Hey'a, everyone! It's been a while since I participated in Random Fridays, but this week's topic, I couldn't resist. Emma's introduced me to the idea of book title poetry, and I thought I'd give it a try. The following poems are meant to be read as parts of the same story- though each can, I believe, stand on its own.

(And yes, I know, I might've cheated a little on adding words. I think it's ok, though.)

Act I
[A] Golden Daughter
By darkness hid,
Writing magic:
Words of radiance
[Turning]
Black
[To] white.

Act II
The Hero of Ages,
[Turned from]
The way of kings
[By] a swiftly tilting planet,
[Now] out of darkness rising.

Act III
Illusionarium
[Shattered by the]
Orphan's Song;
The ravaged realm
From darkness won
[By] the return of the king.
I hope you enjoyed these! (And that I might've inspired you to create some title poetry of your own!)
Thanks for reading!

Merry Christmas!

For centuries, through endless night,
We wandered lost, without a light.
~~
No day, no light, though sun shown down,
In night of sin we were always found.
~~
Prophecies spoke of one who’d come,
Shining brighter than the sun.
~~
He’d break through the darkest night;
And to the lost He’d shine a light.
~~
A lamb, a king, a sacrifice,
A star who would from Jacob rise:
~~
For this we waited and watched to see
The Light who’d come and set us free.
~~
But He did not come as we had thought
With power and riches for His lot.
~~
That Bethlehem night, when He came down
He had no riches, no kingly crown.
~~
As a babe He came to Earth,
Child of a virgin birth.
~~
He was born in the most unexpected place of all:
The stable of a humble inn, so quiet and so small.
~~
There was no room at any inn;
No other place to welcome Him.
~~
Yet o’er that stable a new star shone out,
Proclaiming His birth north, east, west, and south.
~~
And to lonely shepherds now appeared
A sight that brought both joy and fear.
~~
“Do not fear!” spoke angel bright.
“I bring good news for you this night!
~~
Christ the Savior is born to you!
To the stable, go and see, ‘tis true!”
~~
The angels filled the starry sky,
Singing “Glory be to God on high!”
~~
To Bethlehem the shepherds went
And found it as the angel said.
~~
Through the town they then returned,
Proclaiming to all what they’d seen and heard.
~~
And following the star from Eastern lands,
Strangers came from o’er desert sands.
~~
Three kings came to see the Light,
Born upon that silent night.
~~
Gold, myrrh, and incense to Him they bring
To give honor to the King of Kings.
~~
But the richest of gifts could never compare
To God’s greatest gift who was lying there.
~~
Still He shines His light today
Guiding us to God’s bright day.
~~
And one day when all darkness flees,
The one true Light will reign supreme.
~~
Now on this day of Jesus’ birth,
We remember when He came to Earth,
To be for those who are lost, a light,
And break through sin’s accursed night.
~~
Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord."
~Luke 2:10-11

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Advent Week 4: Angels

This is the fourth in my series of Advent poems. If you haven't, please read the poems for Week One, Week Two, and Week Three.
------

Week Four: Angels
The angels spoke of hope for men
And peace on earth both now and then.
~
Their message endures to this day:
~
That God to us His own Son gave,
~
And that newborn King so small
~
Would one day pay the sins of all.
~
And so we celebrate this night
~
The Child who gave us Life and Light.

Advent Week 3: Shepherds

This is the third poem in my series of Advent poems. If you haven't already, don't forget to read Week One and Week Two's poems!
---------

Week Three: Shepherds
In fields outside the little town
Shepherds and their flocks lay down.
~
They thought their normal watch to keep.
~
But they were wakened from their sleep.
~
The angel brought the holy word
~
Of the arrival of the Lord.
~
The shepherds found Him as was said:
~
Their newborn king in manger-bed.
