My Lorien Cape!

Guess what! I made a cape! It's modeled after the Lorien capes from The Lord of the Rings. Of course, mine obviously isn't made of elven cloth, and the style is a bit different (it's longer, for one thing), but I'm still very happy with it.

I used this pattern, though I did a few things differently than they suggested. For instance, I didn't hand-stitch a single thing except a basting line on the hood. I also used a different method of hemming than they did, mostly because theirs seemed rather complicated. Instead, I just trimmed it so the edge was even all the way around the half-circle, turned it over twice, and sewed.

Closer view, still with the hood up.
Attaching the hood, specifically the hood lining, was probably the hardest part. I'm still not entirely sure I did it exactly how they wanted me to. But it looks good and shows no inclination to come apart, so I'm not going to worry too much about it.

Close view, hood down.
Despite all that, the process in general was easier than I expected. The hardest part, in general, was figuring out what the instructions wanted me to do. The actual sewing and such was fairly simple, especially since most of it was just straight seams. Also, my mom and a friend both kindly helped me figure out some of the harder bits.

Also, while we're on the subject of LOTR-related things, this is a lovely rendition of Galadriel's song from The Fellowship of the Ring. I just discovered it tonight, and thought the rest of you might enjoy it.

Well, that's about it. Thanks for reading!

    1. Thanks! And yeah. Who doesn't want a cape? xD

If you've sewn some before, you could give this one a try. Like I said, it's not too hard.

    1. Thanks! It took about a few days for the actual sewing, but there were several days inbetween those where I didn't sew at all because I had other stuff to do or was procrastinating.

  3. Wow, your cape looks great! I'd love a cape like that. :D Fantastic job!
I had no idea that you were so good at sewing. I myself am no great expert at the art, unfortunately. Maybe this school year I'll try to learn.

By the way, I like our hairdo in the photo where it shows the hood. :) I do mine like that sometimes.

    1. Thanks a bunch!
Heh. I'm not actually that great; like I said, the cape is easier than it looks. You should definitely try to get into it, though.

Thanks! I was going for an elvish look; hopefully I succeeded.

  4. You did a great job making that cape! Too bad I'm not very good at sewing or I would have tried making one for myself.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! But remember: it pays to be polite to dragons.
